Flow towards wellness
What is Lymphatic Drainage Therapy?
While we often focus on our blood circulation, the lymphatic system is the body’s silent secondary circulatory system. It acts as a filtration plant, removing waste, toxins, and excess fluid from our tissues. Unlike the heart, the lymphatic system doesn't have a pump; it relies on movement and breathing to keep things flowing.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT/MLD) is a specialised, gentle manual technique designed to stimulate this flow. By using rhythmic, light-pressure strokes, an osteopath or therapist can map the rhythm and direction of the lymph to clear pathways and balance the immune system.
How Does It Complement Osteopathy?
In osteopathy, we believe that structure governs function. If the "pipes" of the body are congested, the rest of the system can’t function at 100%.
Fluid Dynamics: While osteopathic adjustments focus on bones and joints, LDT addresses the fluid environment surrounding those structures.
Reduced Inflammation: By clearing stagnant fluid, LDT can reduce localised swelling, making it easier for osteopathic manipulations to take hold.
Nervous System Reset: Both practices emphasise the parasympathetic nervous system (the "rest and digest" state), helping patients achieve deeper relaxation.
Is It Right for You?
LDT is incredibly versatile. It’s often recommended for patients dealing with:
Chronic fatigue or sluggishness
Fibromyalgia or chronic pain
Skin congestion and acne
Anyone feeling stressors of everyday life
