What can I expect in the initial consult?
During the initial consult, we will discuss your past medical history as well as presenting complaint. If you have had any imaging (X-ray, ultrasound etc) and it is available it would be good for you to bring that along as well.
What should I wear?
Being comfortable is important, however it may also necessary to see certain movements to assess the cause of discomfort - which may not be the site of pain. We recommend wearing sports clothing or something loose and comfortable. You can either come wearing them or we will leave the room to allow you to change during your session.
Can I change my mind about certain treatment methods during the session?
Absolutely, the treatment is guided by you. If at any point you are uncomfortable, we will pause and discuss and adapt as appropriate.
Will it be paintful?
Generally treatment is not painful, however depending on your presentation some technqiues may irritate the site of pain.
Due to increased movement of the joints during treatment, it is normal to feel sore for 24-48 hours post treatment. If soreness persists beyond 48hours, please call us for further advice.
Will I have homework/exercises?
After each session you will be prescribed either exercises or simple ways to integrate helpful techniques into your daily routine. Whether that be doing squats whilst waiting for the kettle to boil or breathwork and moments of mindfullness. These will be tailored to your specfic needs and presentation.
How many sessions do I need?
That depends on your presentation. If the condition is relatively new and you have good tissue healing, then you maybe only require a few sessions. Typically we would like to see you for at least one follow-up appointment post the initial consult.
Doing the prescribed rehab will also contribute to improving your healing time.
